Sevilla PV(adek solucar)

Posted by pc_tecno_da_brute

Location: Sanlúcar la Mayor, Sevilla.

Type of Project: Low concentration Photovoltaic Plant (1.2 MW).

Sevilla PV is the largest low-concentration PV plant in the world. The research arm in Spain of Abengoa Solar, called Abengoa Solar NT was responsible for developing this economic and technically feasible technology.

Sevilla PV has an installed capacity of 1.2 MW. Based on the local the solar resource, the plant is capable of generating 2.1 GWh of clean energy every year. This is enough to supply the electricity needs of 525 house holds and will reduce CO2 emissions by more than 800 tons per year. The total conversion efficiency of solar energy into electricity is approximately 12%.

Operation of the solar field is very simple. The photovoltaic modules produce direct current (DC). Inverters convert the direct current into alternating current (AC) in the solar field. Before the electricity is delivered to the grid, the voltage is boosted using a transformer.

The Sevilla PV plant has 154 two-axles tracking PV units. These trackers were designed by our R&D company, Abengoa Solar NT. The plant has a rated installed capacity of 780 kWp and effective power of 1230 kWe Each PV tracker has 36 PV modules and a collection surface area of 860 ft2 (80 m 2). The entire plant covers 29.5 acres (12 hectares) and has a PV surface area of 63,500 ft2 (5913 m 2).

Despite being the first plant of its kind, the operation of Sevilla PV is not complicated. The only moving components are the solar tracking devices. None of the other components need special maintenance.

Our R&D company in Spain, Abengoa Solar NT, is involved in numerous PV R&D projects. Additionally, it has collaborative arrangements with many organizations, such as the Fraunhofer Institute aimed at reducing the cost and increasing the efficiency of PV technology.

Solúcar Platform
PS10: The first commercial tower of the world

Location Sanlúcar la Mayor, Sevilla.

Type of Project: 11 MW Tower Technology.

The PS10 tower installation is the result of several years of research and development conducted by Abengoa Solar. It will be the first solar tower in the world to commercially generate electricity and deliver it reliably to the gid.

The PS10 solar plant incorporates thermal storage that allows full production for 30 minutes. Thermal storage can boost power production under low radiation conditions. Additionally, the PS10 can use natural gas for 12-15% of its electrical production. The PS10 will generate 24.3 GWh per year of clean energy which is enough to supply 5,500 households.

As depicted by the schematic below, PS10 uses the steam produced by the solar field to operate a conventional power cycle. The installed capacity of the system is 11 MW.

The PS10 solar field is composed of 624 Sanlúcar 120 heliostats. Each heliostat is 1291 ft2 (120 m 2), which means the entire heliostat field is has an area of 75,000 m2.Each heliostat tracks the sun in two axes and concentrates the radiation onto the a receiver located on the upper part of the 377 ft (115 m) tower.

The PS10 receiver was designed by Abengoa Solar NT for the direct generation of saturated steam. The receiver is composed of four vertical panels that are each 18 ft (5.5 m) wide and 39 ft (12 m) tall. The panels are arranged in a semicylindrical configuration inside a cavity with an opening of 11m x 11m (36 ft x 36 ft). At design conditions, the receiver delivers 55 MWth of saturated steam at 495 F (257 C). The efficiency of conversion of incident sunlight into steam is better than 92%.

Currently, a second generation tower, the PS20, is under construction at the Solucar Solar Park. Operation of the plant will be similar to the PS10, but the PS20 will have twice the capacity of the PS10 and will therefore supply the electricity needs of 12,000 households. The solar field will consist of 1,255 heliostats (120 m2 each) and a 160 m high tower. Abengoa Solar will continue its research into improving tower technology while gaining valuable experience from the construction and operation of the PS20.

Solana: The world largest solar plant

Location: : Gila Bend, Phoenix (Arizona).

Type of proyect : 280 MWe Trough Plant with storage.

This project is the result of the contract which Abengoa Solar has signed with Arizona Public Service (APS), the largest electric company in Arizona, to build and operate what will be the largest solar power plant in the world.

For the Solar Business Unit, this contract represents the construction of the first concentrating solar power plant for producing electric power in the United States.

The plant will be installed about 100 kilometers southwest of Phoenix, near Gila Bend. Solana, with 280 MWe of power output capacity, is based on parabolic trough technology and thermal storage using molten salts. When operation starts up, the plant will have the capacity to supply power to 70,000 homes and will eliminate around 400,000 tons of CO2.
